1. How should I choose between a 40A and 48A EV charger?
Choose the 40A charger if you prefer a plug-in installation with a NEMA 14-50 outlet, or if your vehicle’s onboard charger is limited to around 9.6kW or less.
Choose the 48A charger if you want the fastest Level 2 home charging speed and your EV can accept up to 11.5kW.
Please note that the 48A charger must be hardwired on a dedicated 60A circuit and installed by a licensed electrician.
2. How fast can it charge my EV?
This charger delivers up to 48A / 11.5kW at 240V. Actual charging speed depends on your vehicle’s onboard charger limit.
Many EVs can add approximately 35–46 miles of range per hour, depending on the vehicle model and efficiency.
3. What circuit breaker and wiring are required?
For 48A charging, a 60A dedicated circuit is required under the 80% continuous-load rule.
Installation should be completed by a licensed electrician using properly sized copper wiring, commonly #6 AWG, according to local electrical codes.
4. Is it safe for outdoor installation?
Yes. The charger is designed for indoor and outdoor use, with a weather-resistant enclosure suitable for garage, driveway, and carport installation.
For best long-term performance, install it in a location that avoids direct physical impact and unnecessary cable strain.
5. Is the App required to use the charger?
No. The App is not required for basic charging. You can plug in and charge your vehicle directly without connecting to Wi-Fi or using the App.
The Smart Life App is only needed if you want to use smart features such as remote monitoring, charging history, scheduled charging, or adjusting settings from your phone.
6. Does this charger include leakage protection?
Yes. The charger includes built-in leakage protection. For installation, please follow local electrical codes and your electrician's recommendation.
In many cases, a standard dedicated breaker is preferred because using an additional GFCI breaker may cause nuisance tripping.
