FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Product Compatibility

How do I know if this charger will work with my vehicle?

Before purchase, please check your vehicle’s charging port type.

If your vehicle has a J1772 charging port, choose an EVPOVO J1772 charger.

If your vehicle has a NACS charging port, this J1772 charger will not plug in directly. You will need a properly rated J1772-to-NACS adapter, or you should choose a NACS-compatible charger.

Choosing the correct connector type is important for safe and convenient charging. If you are not sure which port your vehicle has, please check your vehicle owner’s manual, the charging port on your vehicle, or contact us before purchase.

Why is my vehicle not charging at the full charger output?

Charging speed depends on both the charger output and your vehicle’s onboard charger capacity.

For example, if your EV can only accept 7.2 kW AC charging, it will not charge faster than about 7.2 kW even when connected to a higher-power charger.

2. Charging Speed

What is the difference between 32A, 40A, and 48A charging?

At 240V, approximate charging power is:

• 32A: up to 7.7 kW
• 40A: up to 9.6 kW
• 48A: up to 11.5 kW

Actual charging speed may vary depending on your vehicle’s onboard charger, battery condition, temperature, and charging settings.

How many miles of range can I add per hour?

Approximate range added per hour:

• 32A: around 25–30 miles per hour
• 40A: around 29–38 miles per hour
• 48A: around 35–46 miles per hour

Actual range added depends on your vehicle efficiency and onboard charger capacity.

3. Installation

Does the 40A wallbox charger require professional installation?

The 40A wallbox charger is a plug-in model designed for a properly installed NEMA 14-50 outlet.

It must be used on a dedicated 240V circuit with a high-quality, secure, and undamaged outlet suitable for continuous EV charging. If you are not sure whether your outlet or circuit is suitable, please have it inspected by a licensed electrician before use.

Does the 48A charger require professional installation?

Yes. The 48A hardwired charger must be installed by a licensed electrician.

This model requires hardwired installation on a dedicated 240V circuit. A 60A circuit breaker is typically required for 48A charging. Installation must follow the product manual and local electrical codes.

Can I use an extension cord with my EV charger?

No. Do not use extension cords with EV chargers.

EV charging is a continuous high-power load. Extension cords may increase the risk of overheating, voltage drop, equipment damage, or unsafe operation.

Can I install the charger outdoors?

Yes. EVPOVO chargers are designed for indoor and outdoor use, with IP66 waterproof protection and NEMA Type 4 enclosure rating to help protect against rain, dust, snow, and harsh outdoor conditions.

For outdoor installation, please make sure the charger is installed according to the user manual and local electrical codes. The outlet, wiring, junction box, and all electrical connections must also be suitable for outdoor use and properly protected.

For plug-in models, the NEMA 14-50 outlet should be installed in a weather-resistant enclosure and remain secure, dry, and in good condition. For hardwired models, installation must be completed by a licensed electrician.

4. Wallbox Storage

How should I store the cable and connector after charging?

EVPOVO wallbox chargers are designed with integrated cable storage.

After charging, remove the J1772 connector from the vehicle, insert the connector back into the charger body, and wrap the cable neatly around the charger.

Do not leave the connector on the ground or allow the cable to be sharply bent, crushed, twisted, or exposed to unnecessary impact.

5. App & WiFi

Do I have to connect the charger to the app?

No. App control is optional.

Selected EVPOVO smart chargers support Smart Life app control, but the charger can still be used for normal charging without connecting to the app.

What app does the charger use?

Selected EVPOVO smart chargers use the Smart Life app.

The app is free to download from the App Store or Google Play. The developer name may appear as Volcano Technology Co., Ltd.

Does the charger support 5 GHz WiFi?

No. Smart Life app setup requires a 2.4 GHz WiFi network.

A 5 GHz-only network is not supported. If your router combines 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz under the same WiFi name, pairing may fail on some routers. We recommend using a separate 2.4 GHz WiFi name for setup.

What should I do if app pairing fails?

Please try the following:

• Make sure your phone is connected to 2.4 GHz WiFi
• Enable Bluetooth on your phone
• Move your phone closer to the charger
• Check that the WiFi password is correct
• Make sure the garage has a stable WiFi signal
• Disable VPN during setup
• Restart the charger and router

You can also reset the charger and pair again by pressing and holding the A button and the Timer / Clock button for more than 3 seconds.

Can I control the charger with Bluetooth?

Yes, nearby control may be available through Bluetooth after setup.

Bluetooth control range is approximately 15 meters / 49 feet, depending on the environment and signal interference.

6. Safety

Do EVPOVO chargers have built-in safety protection?

EVPOVO chargers are designed with multiple safety protections, which may include leakage protection, overcurrent protection, overvoltage protection, undervoltage protection, overtemperature protection, ground fault protection, and short circuit protection depending on the model.

Please refer to the product page and user manual for model-specific details.

What should I do if the charger becomes hot, smells unusual, or shows damage?

Stop using the charger immediately.

Do not continue charging if you notice abnormal heat, burning smell, visible damage, sparks, power failure, or repeated error messages. Contact EVPOVO support for assistance.
